Practicing Mindfulness

Mindfulness…first let’s define what exactly is mindfulness?

Mindfulness describes a moment to moment awarness of your thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations.  It’s a state of being attuned to what is going on in your body and mine in the surrounding environment-being in the present moment without thinking about the future or what happened in the past.  As essential component of mindfulness is acceptence.  Whatever you are thinking and feeling at that moment is neither right nor wrong.   You notice it, and accept it, and move onto the next moment without getting caught up in judging what you are feeling.

How is mindfulness different from meditation?

They are practically synonymous but they are not exactly the same.  Mindful meditation is on form of meditation, but it’s not the only form.  Once you learn mindfulmess skills, you can practice them at almost any moment of the day-sitting at your computer, stuck in traffic, even eatin.  In fact there is has been a lot of interest in mindful eating as a way to help people to be more aware of what they eat.
